Udaipur Rajasthan or Venice of the East is a city in the state of Rajasthan in India and was founded by Udai Singh II in 1558 after his capital Chittorgarh was besieged by Akbar. It continued to be the capital city till 1818 when it became a British state. In 1947 it became a part of Rajasthan after India gained independence.
