If you are a U.S citizen you will need either an electronic travel authorization or a valid entry visa to Sri Lanka. The approval notice shall be obtained the approval notice from Sri Lanka’s Electronic Travel authorization aside of a passport, Onward & Return Ticket and a proof of sufficient funds. These conditions apply on tourists, transit passengers & short term business travellers

Determining when will be the best time for you to visit Sri Lanka will vary according to the activity, what you’re seeking to do while in Sri Lanka and where your destination will be exactly in Sri Lanka. The favoured months are usually those that are from December to march if your heading to the West & South Coast, April to September if you will be visiting the ancient cities & East Coast. We would advise you to avoid the monsoon periods which in the Northeast region range from November to March and in the Southeast from June to October.  

Generally speaking, immunizations are not a must before you head to Sri Lanka, with the exception of travelling from an area with Yellow Fever, which in this case you will need to have a certificate proving your vaccination from it. Sri Lanka has battled years of political unrest & civil war between the Sinhalese government and the Tamil Insurgents. Nowadays, Sri Lanka has enjoyed a peaceful environment and internal harmony many would envy it for. But just to stay on the safe side stay focused on your surroundings & don’t leave any possessions of yours without supervision at the beach. Another area to be attentive is would be spacious markets and open areas to avoid being subject to pickpocketing.  

The official language of Sri Lanka is called the Sinhala Language & is spoken by the Sinhalese people, with only 10 % of the population speaking fluent English and 70% speaking the native language. The other language that has an official status would be Tamil. You don’t have a reason to be worried though as almost all crucial and needed communication with the country is presented in English

The cost of the Electronic Travel authorization entry will depend on a number of factors. The first factor will be if the visitor comes from a SAARD ( South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) or if he is not. IN the first case the 30-day double Tourist entry visa will only be charged only 20 USD as a non-refundable processing fee.  As for the 30-day entry visa, the charge will be for 30 USD. as for A person whose country is not a member of the SAARD, the costs of them in the same order will be 35 USD & 40 USA.  

The official currency of Sri Lanka is the Sri Lankan Rupee and its abbreviation is LKR. The exchange rate of a single US dollar to Sri Lankan Rupee is 7.46 LKR, for the Canadian Dollar its 5.58 LKR, for the Euro the exchange rate is 8.75 LKR and last but not least for the sterling pound its 9.67. For places to exchange such currency, there are many options from the airport, the exchange devices all over the city & authorized banks.here’s a quick tip in case you don’t have any us dollars with you Australian dollars are widely exchanged in the country

The Hygiene and preparation methods in Sri Lanka have gone a long way, especially over the last 15 to 20 years. This still doesn’t mean that you might feel somewhat uncomfortable but that would mostly be due to the rich nature of Sri Lankan Food and the copious spices used in it.  Mainly just follow the common rules of trave such as drinking bottled water instead of tap water which could prove cute unforgiving, and you should be fine.

For women travellers, the advised attire would be long skirts or pants with the upper arms & chest covered, while keeping a scarf close at hand in case you need to wear one when entering a Religious site. As for the men, a pair of long pants paired with a T-Shirt is definitely the way to go.  

Your phone should be working fine in Thailand as long as the romaing service is active on your mobile and that you have joined into a Roaming Bundles that world in Sri Lanka. Another tip is to make sure that the network that your connecting to there is the same one that your provider at home has an agreement with. Finally, another great option is to get a local sim card which in many cases proves cheaper than a roaming agreement.
