Entebbe, Uganda

 

Entebbe is one of the most important and beautiful cities in Uganda. It is located on the stunning Lake Victoria peninsula and it is very close to the capital to the Ugandan capital, Kampala. It was the center of the government of Uganda before independence and it is home of the largest airport in Uganda, Entebbe international airport.  

 

Location & History:

 

Entebbe is located on the northern shores of the largest lake in Africa, Lake Victoria. It is very close to the capital and the largest city in Uganda, Kampala city, 45 kilometers southern. The drive from Entebbe to Kampala takes 90 minutes maximum.

History:

The name Entebbe in the local language in Uganda means a seat; it was named this way because it was the place where the Baganda chief sat to adjudicate legal cases. Entebbe also was the administrative and commercial center for the British during their occupation.  

 

Entebbe WildLife:

 

Although Uganda is the home of the Big Five (lion, tiger, rhinoceros, buffalo, elephant), it boasts a unique wildlife with species of lions, the Nile crocodile, and more than 1,000 species of birds, including some rare ones. No wonder Entebbe's wetlands and savannahs are great habitats for some of the world's most spectacular birds and wildlife. Uganda is the place where you can see the true colors of the wild life.

Entebbe Wildlife Center (Zoo): The best option to do safari in Entebbe and you will have the chance to capture several species of lions, rhinos, zebras, crocs, giraffes, hyenas and others.

Reptile Village in Entebbe: you will be able to see all the reptiles of Uganda at Reptile Village in Entebbe, the village is characterized by being very quiet and calm, also have unique species of reptiles like The Gaboon Viper, Nile Monitor, Leopard Tortoise, Forest Cobra and Jackson Chameleon. The major thing that the village is trying to do for the tourists and their guests is to overcome their fear from reptiles and take an interest in their conversation.

 

Entebbe Botanical Garden: established in 1898 and located on the northern shores of Lake Victoria, the Garden is home of very old trees and a variety of plants maintained near Lake Victoria.

Entebbe is the only city in Uganda that has International airport (Entebbe International Airport). So it is very easy to reach and stay in Entebbe.
