National Parks in Egypt

Gebel Elba National Park

Gebel Elba National Park, one of Egypt's top 5 parks, is situated on the country's south-eastern border and offers some of the greatest views of the mountains, valleys, and hills that make up the park's landscape. The Red Sea hills, which divide the Red Sea coast from the major Elba Mountains, are located on the other side of the park from the high-peaked Elba Mountain, which is surrounded by a series of valleys. Moving on to the Gebel Elba National Park, a well-known location in Egypt that is stretched out over 50 square kilometers to the north of Shalateen and around 250 kilometers from the southern side of Marsa Alam. Elba Park is renowned for its diverse habitats, which include sand dunes, mountain highlands, marshes, mangroves, and coastal plains. About 458 plant species, 86 distinct corals, 104 fish species, 26 animal species, and 60 bird species also call this diverse environment home. Numerous wild animals, including ibexes, Barbary sheep, gazelles, the Aardwolf, Striped Polecat, the Egyptian leopard, eagles, falcons, the Egyptian vulture, and the Bearded Vulture, will be seen.

Wadi El-Gemal National Park

Near Marsa Alam, in Egypt's Red Sea area, lies the Wadi El Gemal National Park, which is about 40 kilometers away. The park, which spans a vast area of 7000 square kilometers and is made up of both land and water, offers visitors the chance to view the coral reefs that line the local beaches while the untamed mountains provide a striking contrast to the beaches. There are several activities available at the Wadi El Gemal National Park, including hiking, bird viewing, and guided cycling excursions. Wadi El Gemal is surrounded by mangroves and acacia trees on all sides and is home to a wide range of wild creatures, such as the Nubian Ibex, wild foxes, gazelles, and birds that rest there before migrating to other locations. Exploring the oldest emerald mine in the world while learning about Indigenous Bedouins' survival strategies is another fascinating activity at Wadi. Visit Wadi El Gemal Island if you're looking for a location to go snorkeling since you can swim among turtles and dugongs there.

Ras Mohammed National Park

Ras Mohammed National Park, which was established as a protected area in Egypt in 1983, is located in the southernmost part of the Sinai Peninsula and offers a bird's-eye view of the Gulf of Suez and Aqaba. Only 20 kilometers separate the Ras Mohammed National Park from Sharm, but 446 kilometers separate it from Cairo, making it rather far. One of the reasons the National Park is one of the most sought-after locations for snorkeling and diving is because it is noted for holding more than 1500 aquatic critters. The park's worldwide renowned coral reefs only account for half of its beauty; the other half is found in the park's mountains, plains, valleys, and sand dunes.

Wadi El Rayan National Park

The greatest waterfalls in Egypt may be found in the Wadi El Rayan National Park, where they enter and exit through the lake area. Numerous hot springs and oases can be found nearby, and many species from the national park's surroundings frequent them. The park is home to numerous migrating birds, reptiles, and even two endangered species of gazelle. This area is home to a wide range of trees and plants, particularly the acacia tree. ]

Wadi El-Hitan National Park

*There are several budget campsites and some double rooms.
Binoculars and telescopes are available for rent at the site.

Nabq Protected Area

The Nabq Protected Area was created in 1992 and is situated near Sharm El Sheikh's northern side. A large number of plants and trees have sprung up in the Nabq protected area as a result of the high rainfall levels in the hilly areas near the park. Six of the 134 plant species that call Nabq home are native to the city. In addition, the park is home to the heron, spoonbill, and osprey, all of which are common in Nabq.

White Desert National Park

One of Egypt's most incredible sceneries is the White Desert National Park's chalk rock formations. Over millennia, the rocks here have been buffeted by sand-laden winds, molding them into hillocks, spires, and bizarrely formed outcrops that protrude from a plain covered with dazzling pyrites (fool's gold) and tiny fossils.

Under a full moon, the white rocks tower out of the shadows and take on an eerie glow. At sunset, the white rocks are tinted with rose-pink tones in the fading light. The most well-liked method to experience this place is to camp out beneath the stars among these granite outcrops.

Although Bahariya, approximately 160 kilometers (99 miles) to the north, is closer to Cairo and has more amenities, lodging options, and tour options, most tourists base themselves there despite the fact that Farafra is closer to the national park (about 20 kilometers/12.4 miles southwest). A variety of day, overnight, and multi-day journeys are offered by the Bahariya-based tour companies White Desert Tours and the Western Desert Tours in and around the White Desert.

St. Katherine Protectorate

The St. Katherine Protectorate, located in the midst of the South Sinai desert, was designated as a national park because of both its rich cultural and religious history and its untamed, natural nature, which is home to Egypt's highest peaks. For the three major monotheistic religions, this 4250 sq. km (1641 sq. mile) reserve is central to their respective worldviews.
