DAY 8: MONTEVERDE – PN TENORIO – GUANACASTE (323 km- 5 hs 41 min)

In the morning, early departure to the Tenorio Volcano National Park, established in 1997 to protect the extensions of primary and dry tropical forest. Trails are still being created within the park, and it is considered one of the new destinations ahead for nature and adventure lovers. Those of us who are ready for a moderately challenging 6 km hike will start at Rio Celeste, notable for its striking turquoise blue color. As we hike the trail, we'll keep an eye out for monkeys, sloths, tropical birds, and other wildlife, while enjoying views of hot springs and a lagoon. The winding path follows the banks of the river, taking us upstream as the vivid blue color of the water deepens until it reaches a photogenic waterfall. Later, we continue along the route to the Guanacaste peninsula where we will stay the rest of the
days.
Overnight in Guanacaste.

We can expect it to be dusty in the dry season and muddy in the humidity. We will stay in a lodge near the town of Santa Elena,
which is the visitor center to the Monteverde National Park and enlivened by some craft shops and restaurants.

In the morning we will visit Selvatura Park, a conservation area that offers a number of exciting activities, including zip lines. We will take a walk on their trail system that includes seven suspension bridges that cross the deep canyons at treetop level. In the afternoon we have a guided walk in the Monteverde Cloudforest Reserve, home to more than 100 species of mammals, 400 of birds and 1,500 of plants. We follow well-marked trails, amid dense, fog-shrouded, dripping foliage - hopefully we will meet the iconic bird, the brilliantly feathered
resplendent quetzal (January - July). Other striking species include the emerald toucan and we should also be able to spot white-faced and howler monkeys. The reserve encompasses a protected area with six different life zones: so many habitats in such a small area allow us to enjoy a rich diversity of flora and fauna within walking
